Mila at the brown sand dunes

Collection Title: Mila at the Brown Sand Dunes
Show Date: 07 March 2025

“You are Loved.”

This collection is told through the story of Mila, a character born and raised in the vast brown sand dunes. In her world, the word love does not exist. Yet she has always known how to express it. She finds it in the countless shades of brown that surround her, each tone carrying a story, each shade connecting her to her people. The dunes whisper to her that though the community may look different, they are bound together by the same earthy hues that make them one.

The collection mirrors this truth. Each piece is distinct, holding no design relation to another, yet all are united through the shades of brown. It is this shared colour, like the sand itself, that binds the garments together, just as love binds humanity.

In my design journey, I have learned that my personal life and spiritual experiences are inseparable from my work. Mila is more than a character; she is my daughter. At just a few months old, when this show was conceived, she had no understanding of the word love, yet she expressed it, she needed it, and she radiated it. To her, love was the warmth of the brown world she knew, and through her, I understood its deeper meaning.

As a Christian, I believe every collection I create is a reflection of the greater story—the story of Jesus. We are all Milas: searching to be loved, held, and seen. And yet, God has already given us the greatest love, a love so deep that He gave His only Son. “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:12).

This collection is both a celebration and a reminder: with every piece you wear, may you always feel wrapped in that truth.

“You are Loved.”

Pillars & Flowers

Collection Story: Pillars & Flowers

“You are a flower.”

Pillars often symbolize strength—firm, structured, and unyielding. Yet, in this collection, the true strength is found not in the pillar, but in the flower. Though delicate in appearance, the flower carries resilience, beauty, and the quiet power of life itself.

While preparing this collection, I envisioned a gardener planting a seed in soft soil. But soon after, the ground was covered in concrete, heavy and unbreakable. Still, beneath the weight, the seed did not die—it waited. At the perfect time, the gardener returned, cracked the concrete, and allowed the flower to rise.

This image is the heart of the collection. In life, we carry immense weight, striving to be as strong and unbending as pillars. Yet we are called to be flowers. Flowers may be fragile, but their strength is found in their dependence on the gardener.

For me, the gardener is God. And in Jesus, the concrete is broken—He tore the barrier between us and the Father. “At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” (Matthew 27:51).

The designs reflect this truth. Across the garments, you’ll see what we call the surgery seam—a seam that cuts across the fabric, representing the crack in the concrete. This seam is carefully closed and held with a button, symbolizing the gentle care of the One who restores us after we’ve been released to bloom. Some pieces carry both the seam and a flower motif, reminding us of the struggle we feel when torn between being a pillar and embracing our true nature as flowers.

One design, the Aster Crown Dress, holds only the reference of a flower. It represents how God sees us once we have fully accepted Jesus as Lord—not as fractured pillars, but as radiant flowers in full bloom.

We are all at different stages. Some still live as pillars, unaware that they are meant to be flowers. Some are flowers, yet still wrestling with the weight of being a pillar. But what matters most is what the Gardener sees when He looks at us upon accepting Jesus: a flower.

A flower only has to trust the Gardener. That is its beauty.
That is its strength.
